An online case consultation group for students and graduates of the Tao of Trauma series
All Tao of Trauma students and graduates are invited to any or all of these seasonal case consult sessions.
We will gather in an open format to explore the clinical dynamics related to each phase of the Self Protective Response, as understood in the Tao of Trauma model.
We can discuss a challenging patient, concept, or principle – and enjoy our time. Exercises, demonstrations, and clinical practice skill development will emerge out of our time together.
If you would like to present one of your patients, please refer to THIS DOCUMENT for questions to answer in advance of the session. You will submit your case to Alaine via email.

- Friday, December 1, 2023 – ToT Case Consult – Metal/Awaken Arousal
Students are invited to bring their challenges with patients, concepts, or principles related to impact of incomplete experiences in the Awaken Arousal phase of the Self Protective Response. We will further explore ways to cultivate the function of the Po to recognize new things in our environment with parasympathetic curiosity.
- Friday, January 19, 2024 – ToT Case Consult – Water/Signal Threat
Students are invited to bring their challenges with patients, concepts, or principles related to the impact of incomplete or thwarted experiences in the Signal Threat phase of the Self Protective Response. We will further explore ways to cultivate the function of the Kidney and Bladder systems to recognize safety and to distinguish discomfort from threat.
- Friday, April 19, 2024 – ToT Case Consult – Wood/Mobilize a Response
Students are invited to bring their challenges with patients, concepts, or principles related to the impact of incomplete or thwarted experiences in the Mobilize A Response phase of the Self Protective Response. We will further explore ways to cultivate the function of the Liver and Gall Bladder to mobilize fight or flight responses that are commensurate with the level of threat.
- Friday, June 7, 2024 – ToT Case Consult – Fire/Restore Coherence
Students are invited to bring their challenges with patients, concepts, or principles related to the impact of incomplete or thwarted experiences in the Restore Coherence phase of the Self Protective Response. We will further explore ways to cultivate the function of the Heart, Pericardium, Small Intestine and Triple Heater to signal both a command to respond to threat and a return to equanimity and the awareness that “it’s over.”
- Friday, September 13, 2024 – ToT Case Consult – Earth/Digest the Gristle
Students are invited to bring their challenges with patients, concepts, or principles related to the impact of incomplete or thwarted experiences in the Digest the Gristle phase of the Self Protective Response. We will further explore ways to cultivate the function of the Stomach and Spleen to harvest lessons that expand rather than contract life.
